The Gloucestershire Wheelchair Service (GWS) provides wheelchairs and accessories to those with medium-high-specialist needs and who will need the equipment for long term use of more than six months.

Free maintenance and repairs will be provided on all NHS wheelchairs, which remain the property of the NHS. The initial referral only needs to be made via a healthcare professional. After this GWS can accept self-referrals.

Assessments are carried out in clinics held at the Independent Living Centre in Cheltenham, and in special schools, with home visits in exceptional circumstances only. Appointments are available between 9.30 a.m. and 4.30 p.m.

They can order the wheelchair directly from GIS Healthcare. Alternatively, please ask at your GP surgery. A voucher scheme is also available for Low Needs wheelchairs.

Those requiring a Low Needs wheelchair for short term use (less than 6 months) can request an assessment from a healthcare professional who can order a wheelchair directly from GIS Healthcare.
