IV Therapy

IV therapy team 3 smallThe Community IV Therapy Team is a countywide service which provides intravenous (IV) therapies to patients in their own homes, community hospitals and community outpatient clinics following referral by a GP, consultant or specialist nurse.
Our aim is to provide high quality, safe and evidence-based IV treatments for local people closer to home.
The team is made up of seven highly specialised nurses and an administrator who support the district nursing teams to deliver IV therapies in the community.
The team is able to deliver a wide range of treatments including:

• Planned blood transfusion
• Iron Infusions
• Antibiotics
• Bisphosphonates
• Methylprednisolone
• Fluid Replacement
• Therapeutic venesection

Primary locality clinics take place at the Dilke, Tewkesbury, Stroud, The Vale, North Cotswolds and Cirencester community hospitals.  Further clinics are planned in Lydney and Fairford community hospitals.

Treatments such as blood transfusions or iron infusions are booked into a community outpatient clinic and the treatment given by the IV therapy team. The IV therapy team also supports patients who need antibiotic treatment and are being cared for in their own home by the district nursing team or in a clinical environment.
